English Dub Review: Oshi No Ko “Rewriting”

Overview:

Time is dwindling, and a question looms: a faithful Tokyo Blade adaptation or one tailored for theater? Amidst the tension, only one person can convince Abiko to compromise.

Our Take:

I’ve mentioned this before, but sometimes this anime almost feels like it’s educating me on show business. Idol culture, manga authors, dramas, and now plays have all got their turn in the spotlight and Aqua always goes out of his way to explain the minute details that go into these projects he’s on. In this episode, we got a manga writing crash course from Tokyo Blade’s author and her friend. Making a good manga adaption is harder than it seems and it’s hard not to feel like the series is self-aware.

After Aqua goes to a 2.5-D play with Akane and sees how immersive they are, he understands that Abiko has no idea what those plays are like and the script for Tokyo Blade is there to take advantage of the venue. He manages to get some tickets to a play to her so that she can see what it’s like firsthand and perhaps that will change her mind on all the revisions.
