English Dub Review: Code Geass: Rozé of the Recapture “Breaking Dawn”

Overview:

Disheartened by the enemy, Ash turns the Geass curse into a vow and faces the
final battle.

Our Take(Spoilers):

It feels like they wanted to try and get a similar ending to the original series but in my opinion, this one just fell flat. It also felt unnecessarily convoluted, Sakuya needed to put Ash under her Geass again so that he could follow through on his vow to protect her. Why though? We didn’t need that to happen because I think we would have still reached the same conclusion. I understand that some of this will sound a little biased because I’m pro-romance but even if we take that factor out I’m not a fan of how this series ended.

I’ll be going more into it with the season review so expect a lot of spoilers there. But the way Ash and Sakuya defeated Norland was lame. It was fitting that he was killed similarly to the way he killed Ash’s brother but that was the only cool thing about it. I had a lot of high hopes for this series with it being a sequel to one of my favorite anime but it dropped the ball in the last episode here. All of those characters from the past series had no relevance which is okay, I like cameos as much as the next guy. But when you hint that Lelouch gave our main character her Geass I expect a little more from them at least, especially since we were given an epilogue.
