Robot Playground Navigating Uncertain Future After 108 Media Acquisition Falls Through

You may remember a couple of years ago that Robot Playground (Downstairs/Heartland Hubby) had made news from Singapore when it was announced that UK-based 108 Media had acquired a majority stake in the Ervin Han/Bernard Toh-founded studio. According to Ervin via a post on his LinkedIn, as of today, that deal has not gone through and the studio is still 100% in the hands of its founders and it sounds like that’s not changing anytime soon.

Earlier this month, Singaporean-created adult animated comedy series Downstairs had officially left Netflix and took all three seasons with it. With the future uncertain for the franchise from Robot Playground Media, Ervin notes that he plans to make more of the award-winning adult animated franchise, just as to where at this juncture is anyone’s guess.

In the meantime, Robot Playground just showcased a VERY promising new horror-animated series Egg Fried Rice and it could be exactly the recipe needs for the studio to find potential conglomerates with deeper pockets to both ponie up the doe and allow Ervin and Bernard to continue to have the creative freedom the duo has enjoyed for so many years.
