Report: Army Of The Dead Animated Series Canceled At Netflix

I think prequel shows are starting to wear thin on me and most fans alike. I get that Star Wars is doing it but that franchise is so expansive even if a movie or TV show predates any of the principle films that there’s so much real estate to explore that it kind of doesn’t matter. But, when movies or TV shows end up doing prequels on specific characters, it’s mostly a hodgepodge effort that ultimately helps lead to exhaustion of IP.

One of these examples is the long-awaited animated spin-off of Army of the Dead, the very expensive Zack Snyder-effort claims to have been a fan favorite but I’m not sure I’d count it as a film that needed too much backstory but Snyder felt otherwise and put forward all of these ideas for sequels and prequels including an anime-style series Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas. The series was slated to take place at the start of the zombie outbreak and feature Ana de la Reguera, Dave Batista, Ella Purnell, Tig Notaro, and Omari Hardwick returning in their roles.

Unfortunately for Zack Attack, Netflix didn’t deem necessary to move forward with the animated series as according to a new report from The Wrap, the series has been quietly canceled which seems to further expand upon another Zack interview from over a year when he said the animated series had halted production due to “technical reasons”. Moreover, the series would’ve featured some sort of sequence with Rebel Moon, Zack’s rejected Star Wars pitch come-to-life that is starting to get a lot of the same treatment that Army of the Dead received.

This news comes as Netflix recently did a 5% price increase of their subscriptions across the board and recent data showing that Inside Job is the #1 adult animated series that fans are clamoring for in a return averaging 685 Google searches a month which is the most among Netflix’s recently canceled series. The animated adult-oriented workplace series was originally given the green light for renewal on Netflix after the success of the show’s first part. However, this was then revoked after the second half of the first season was released.
