English Dub Season Review: Go! Go! Loser Ranger! Season One

Overview:

A foot soldier sets out to infiltrate and take down a group of warriors known as the Dragon Keepers. He encounters obstacles and challenges as he attempts to complete his mission against the group.

Our Take:

Negi Haruba is the author of another famous work, The Quintessential Quintuplets, I bring that up because if you’re expecting a rom-com from their next work you will be disappointed. At least as it stands right now, you couldn’t get further away from that genre. It’s not the most unique premise now as it might have been a decade ago but using Power Rangers instead of superheroes gives it a fun wrinkle.

The voice talent for this show is amazing, Zeno Robinson as Fighter D is fantastic of course. But it almost feels like he’s not the main character. Fighters can transform how they look and at a certain point in the story Fighter D swaps with someone working to join the Rangers, Hibiki Sakurama. Paul Castro Jr. voices Hibiki and has to do his best to sound like Zeno’s Fighter D. I think he does a fantastic job at this and I imagine it’s not easy so he would have to be my MVP of this series. I loved Heather Gonzalez as Yumeko Suzukiri but she wasn’t in this season as much as I would have liked.

From a visual standpoint, I think it was excellent. For this review, I looked up which studio handled this series and I was surprised that it was Yostar Pictures. The reason it was surprising is that for the most part, it seems they handle adapting mobile games to anime. I hope they get the rights to the second season of this because they did a fantastic job.

They say to never meet your heroes and when it comes to the Dragon Keepers that is true. I still hope we get a little more background when it comes to them because they can’t be all bad. Plus, why are they as bad as they are? Red Keeper might be the worst because he has murdered two Rangers in the span of one season. But Pink Keeper being a bro-con yandere doesn’t help her case much either. Blue Keeper was an actual criminal before and he seems like a saint in comparison to some of these guys. But we still know next to nothing about Yellow or Green Keeper, and that is what excites me about a second season. If you want a fun, action-packed series that subverts expectations then I think this is a series for you.
