English Dub Review: Why Does Nobody Remember Me in This World? “Rinne”

Overview

In the graveyard where the demons were entombed in his world, Kai finds a girl whom he cannot identify as any of the known races. When she asks him for help, he doesn’t hesitate for long. After freeing her from her chains, mysterious things happen again…

Our Take

After encountering a chained human-like creature with angelic wings, Kai attempts to free her, but it’s Sid’s sword that ultimately breaks her chains, severing fate itself. Despite Rinne suspecting Kai’s potential hostility, he proves his loyalty to Code Holder. Her last memories involve battling the Dark Empress Vanessa and narrowly escaping a demon who tried to rewrite her code. Sharing a common history, Kai and Rinne’s bond grows as they face their new reality.

Integrating Rinne into the city proves challenging as they live in an inverse world where demons reign and the Great War rages on. Kai, now seen as humanity’s hero alongside Sid, and Rinne, with her unique powers, becomes a vital asset to the Urza Federation. Jeanne, recognizing familiar names, helps spark Rinne’s memories. With Code Holder in Kai’s hands, they devise strategies to combat the demons and aim to defeat Vanessa, the hero of the demons.

Overall, this episode marked a significant plot advancement, though it felt rushed. The animation quality dipped, and the pacing was breakneck. Introducing Rinne and their immediate involvement in the human city’s defense felt accelerated. Despite these issues, the chemistry between Kai and Rinne is well-developed, and their relationship is central to the story. As they prepare to confront the demon forces, I’m curious to see how it all plays out…
