English Dub Review: Twilight Out of Focus “Our Feelings Aren’t Always Pretty”

Overview (Spoilers Below):
Preoccupied with their fragile promises, Mao tries to film Hisashi’s kiss scene but gets distracted and is injured on set.  Hisashi carries Mao to the nurse’s office and, when alone, asks Mao to express his true feelings.  Mao opens his heart to Hisashi…

Our Take:
The film shoot didn’t get off to a great start, mainly due to Hisashi’s behavior following Mao’s confession.  Unfortunately, this week’s episode shows that it might not get any better from here on out.  But, at the very least, it makes for some mildly diverting romance amid the shoot.  The reason is that despite Mao’s promise to talk to Hisashi after the shoot, Mao is easily distracted by his complex feelings toward Hisashi, who’s revealed to have also loved Mao.  The situation worsened when Mao tripped and fell on his head while filming Hisashi’s kissing scene.  However, that seemed to have worked well in their favor, giving Mao and Hisashi a moment to express their feelings for each other.  What follows is what you expect from the other romance media: a lot of intimate moments between the two lovebirds, including sex.
While it did result in them breaking one of their promises, they’re still keeping their relationship to themselves from everyone else.  However, it did leave me wondering why the stakes of keeping their promises weren’t as exciting as the film shoot.  Regardless, the episode continues to provide enough sweetness in the duo’s relationship to hold my attention.  But, even though Mao and Hisashi’s complicated worries are behind them, there’s still the matter of finishing the film shoot to wrap up the show’s first romantic tale.
