English Dub Review: Twilight Out of Focus “Kikuchihara Jin’s First Love”

Overview (Spoilers Below):
Jin and rival director Giichi are now roommates.  Tensions between them start to relax as they get used to each other’s more playful behavior at home.  But when another member announces he plans to quit the club, it reignites the conflict between the two.

Our Take:
For a minute, I thought things would immediately go off the rails when Jin became roommates with Giichi.  Thankfully, that wasn’t the case, as the two rivals were able to find common ground, and I’m not just talking about their love for film.  But like other relationships, there’s bound to be one issue threatening to tear them apart.  Unsurprisingly, this is no exception.  The cause of this conflict is that one of the club’s members, Toby, is quitting to focus on his college preparations.  While Jin understands the concern, Giichi believes Toby’s using his excuse to “run away” since Toby’s playing the role of Sigma in their film.
However, the episode’s actual conflict occurs afterward, with Jin finally confessing his love to Giichi, sending the latter into an internal struggle.  This resulted in Giichi attempting to tell Jin his feelings after praising Jin’s first draft, only to discover something else under his roommate’s bed.  It’s another scenario in which the problem from the synopsis was quickly resolved by another one.  Besides that, it’s another series of humorous and intimate moments between Jin and Giichi that serve as fillers between the plot progression, similar to the previous episodes.  However, it appears that their relationship might reach its climax due to Giichi’s discovery of a photo of his younger self.
