Our Take:
We’re finally close to the end of the second season, and it’s already going all in with its surprises.  Considering that the season’s second half was a bit of a letdown, it needed the extra push to finish things off on a positive note.  One of its surprises introduced was the appearance of Ceris, a mysterious man from Anos’s past who claims to be Anos’s father.  While the season’s second half isn’t without its problems, I would admit that it provided a notable attempt to maintain my interest in its convoluted plot.
But that’s not all this episode provided, as Ceris comes to tell Anos his memories aren’t what they seemed to be due to Militia removing Ceris from the equation.  Arcana also didn’t have much luck finding her own memories from Liebarschend, but she did find some new answers from her dream involving her and Ceris.  It’s revealed that Ceris was responsible for feeding her to a dragon while teaching her magic by the Divine Pier, the fire of judgment created by the gods.  After rescuing Arcana, the young Anos performed reincarnation magic so she could live a better new life, but not before hearing her wish to become strong enough to protect those around her.  Afterward, Anos and the gang confront Ceris once more, who plans to destroy Liebarshend and Giordal regardless of how many innocent lives he’ll lose.
The appearance of Ceris seems like a last-minute addition to this already-stuffed cast, especially since we’re nearing the season’s conclusion.  Fortunately, the relationship between Anos and Arcana continues to provide enough interest and heart to carry its complex lore, even though the execution was far from poignant.  With Anos and the others taking their final stand to protect their home, let’s hope their ultimate confrontation can conclude this mixed bag of a season with a bang.
