Our Take

In this episode, Tok begins to learn the importance of teamwork with his new retainers as they successfully take down the Ox Demon though that had a comedic payoff later on. The episode also cleverly references classic anime, like the Dragon Ball Spirit Bomb, while taking its time with a slower pace, compared to previous episodes, and allows for a deeper focus on Toki’s bond with his retainers and his growing trust in Suwa’s guidance.

The episode also reveals more about Suwa’s enigmatic nature, hinting at his possible divine origins, which adds an intriguing supernatural element to the story. Suwa’s eccentric behavior, combined with his godlike powers, raises questions about his true intentions and his connection to Toki’s quest to reclaim his family’s territory.

Overall, the episode strikes a balance between humor and action, while also building camaraderie among Toki and his retainers. The animation remains beautiful, with standout scenes like the rain-clearing moment on the mountain. The lighthearted comedy helps keep the story engaging, setting the stage for Toki’s continued journey and the challenges that lie ahead…
