Our Take

This time around, Crunchyroll felt the need to release two dubbed episodes at once with the first of the two involving Amano joining the team to get to the enemy’s stronghold Bayle Castle which has its share of obstacles with Haga having to use his wits while avoiding the easy way out in using his “debugger stone” to keep him from flying or going through walls, only to encounter a torture chamber full of oddly specific items that hilariously look and feel out of place in the game’s setting.

As for the other episode, it’s a decent continuation where shit starts to get real through a series of twists during Haga’s adventure as the Debuggers come to a collective decision to confront their boss, the titular “Mad King” on what they wanna do as opposed to what the King wants to do, and the twist is something that threw me off but in a good way…

Overall, both episodes managed to keep things captivating with their blend of humor and serious exploration of game mechanics, even as they introduce controversial elements like the dungeon filled with unexpected and crude objects. The unexpected humor, such as Nikola’s interaction with the bizarre dungeon items, contrasts sharply with the darker themes, creating a unique viewing experience. Despite some missteps in storytelling, the show’s love for gaming and the limitations within games starts to shine through, and given the twist ending of the other episode, I’m curious to see where it goes next!
