English Dub Review: My Instant Death Ability is Overpowered “Standard Opening of Gate Number One Confirmed”

Overview (Spoilers Below):
The group heads to the basement of the Tower of Trials, where Theodisia’s brethren are held captive.  Meanwhile, on the ground, the Demon King’s followers attack the tower.

Our Take:
Yogiri and Tomochika had found themselves a new ally inside this “Tower of Trials”.  Theodisia, a half-demon warrior who arrived at the tower to search for her sister, is that ally.  While the duo assists Theodisia, the remaining survivors are left to deal with a threat seeking to free their Dark God, Armagota.  His followers, Orgain and Lute, lead their army to destroy the tower’s barriers along with the remaining contestants.  Unsurprisingly, Lynel’s goddess, Vahanato, is also a part of Armagota’s army as his sweetheart, which would’ve been an intriguing twist if the side characters didn’t appear as one-dimensional.
As usual, Yogiri arrives in the nick of time to kill the army with his ability, but not after Theodisia kills the Sword Master for stealing her brethren’s powers.  The one scene I would admit was mildly funny was when the barrier was broken, and Armagota was actually dead the whole time.  So, it appears that all our worries were for nothing.  But at least Rick is chosen as the new Sword Master, and the Divine King is also set free.  As for Aoi, she was smart enough not to battle Yogiri, fearing what he may do to her.
The episode concludes the characters’ latest pit stop amid their quest to the royal capital.  Unfortunately, like the previous episodes, it was underwhelming at best, with only one piece of humor that worked enough to elevate its tried-and-true isekai formula.  While I’m still happy that several people enjoyed the source material more than I did, I’m also upset that I hadn’t understood the appeal of this OP concept.
