English Dub Review: My Instant Death Ability is Overpowered “Alpha Omega”

Overview (Spoilers Below):
Yogiri and his friends depart for the royal capital.  However, a multitude of dragons stand in their way!

Our Take:
The journey to the capital continues following our “minor” encounter with the zombie apocalypse.  However, it turns out that it wasn’t the only problem Yogiri and Tomochika will face during this trek.  While driving on the rocky mountains, Yogiri and the others come across a horde of dragons attacking them for invading their territory, including the golden lightning dragon.  However, that particular dragon is actually a young girl named Atila, who takes Yogiri and Tomochika on another detour.  There, they’re forced to partake in a competition to name the next Sword Master since the previous one was frozen in time with the Dark God.
Before all of this, the episode spends most of its first half exploring more of Yogiri’s childhood.  In the previous episodes, we briefly see that Yogiri was raised by a woman in a serene home by the woods.  But, in a predictable fashion, this episode showcases that this “serene” sanctuary is part of an underground facility where Yogiri was kept hidden from the outside world.  The woman, whose real name is Asaka Takato, was tasked with raising this particular boy, codenamed “Alpha Omega”, without getting killed by his “instant death” ability.  While I haven’t been impressed with the series so far, the episode deserved some credit for delving more into Yogiri’s past, showcasing that this deadpan character was livelier than he is now.
Besides that, “Alpha Omega” still struggles to provide charm and likability to the show’s isekai scenarios and characters, even with its share of detours.  The other thing that bothered me a bit was Atila’s voice for the English dub.  I don’t think her voice fits this character at all.  No disrespect to the actress voicing this dragon girl, but she made her sound a bit older regarding the character’s age.  If the actress, whose name I couldn’t find, would’ve made her voice sound younger, she would’ve been more forgiving.  Hopefully, we don’t get to see Atila again for a while since she isn’t allowed at the tower, where the competition will take place.
