English Dub Review: I Parry Everything “I Parry a Cow”

Overview (Spoilers Below):

If young Noor wants to leave his simple farm life and become an adventurer, he’s going to need to learn some skills!

Our Take:

Many adventuring protagonists in anime have that one particular skill that makes them the most OP adventurers in the world.  Sure, it makes the battles seem unfair from the audience’s perspective, but damn it, we enjoy watching the characters be badass with their flashy OP moves anyway.  I Parry Everything continues this tradition with its new protagonist, Noor, another character striving to become an adventurer.

Unfortunately, his dream was immediately dashed when he failed to master every basic skill known to man, except parrying, apparently.  That’s right.  Parrying attacks seemed to be more of Noor’s specialty despite having other skills like low-level healing and strength enhancement.  Fortunately, It was enough for Noor to be hired as an F-Rank adventurer, meaning he could only earn money through manual labor in the royal capital.  But that was only the beginning of Noor’s parrying adventure, as he tests his “reliable” skill on a Minotaur attacking Lady Lynne and her guards.  However, despite his parrying helping him defeat the Minotaur, Noor believes it’s not good enough, resulting in his desire to train harder.

Regarding its concept, the first episode of I Parry Everything provided a suitable perspective of an upcoming adventurer.  While it’s evident that the show will offer much of the same regarding its formula, Noor’s determination to become an adventurer was enough to see the direction it’ll take in later episodes.  Additionally, the animation by OLM looked pretty decent so far, especially regarding Noor’s confrontation with a minotaur.  In other words, I won’t be parrying this one just yet.
