English Dub Review: Code Geass: Rozé of the Recapture “Ginto”

Overview:

As a result of Christoph’s interrogations into the secret of Geass, the resistance base is raided.

Our Take:

Things are happening a lot faster than I thought they would. According to MAL, this is only twelve episodes so I understand why they have to tell their story fast but I hope the story doesn’t suffer for it. A lot of people were uncertain about another Code Geass series after how perfectly the first series ended. I was one of those but so far this has been a great series and gives me a few things the original series didn’t. I’m going to be very interested to see what happens between Ash and Sakuya now that the truth has come out.

It’s been a while since I watched the original series but I don’t remember there being so much fanservice. There were a couple of scenes with Kallen but it feels like every scene involving Catherine is a weird camera angle and they put a lot of focus on “jiggling” if you know what I mean. I don’t mind stuff like that but when it comes to Catherine’s character that’s all I know about her, she’s a strong pilot (which I learned this episode) and she has sex appeal.

This was the weakest episode so far but the series has been so strong up to this point that I’m okay with it. I just hope it isn’t a sign of things to come and the show will be able to finish with a bang as we head into the last half.
