Disney+ To Get More Exclusive Content From “The Simpsons” Including Original Episodes And Shorts

Starting September 2024, Disney will be removing Family Guy and Bob’s Burgers from local syndication stations owned by The CW and MyNetworkTV leaving only The Simpsons as the lone series available for broadcast reruns. Similar to 2019 when Disney made sure the only way you could watch their cavalcade of cartoon comedy via some combination Hulu, FX, Freeform, and FXX when they removed reruns of The Cleveland Show, King of the Hill, American Dad, and Futurama. Reruns for The Simpsons are unaffected at this moment, but it sure seems the clock is ticking on the syndication rights for the longest running animated series in primetime.

Could the clock ALSO be ticking on original episodes of The Simpsons airing on broadcast at ALL over the next couple of years, especially with this announcement. Similar to Hulu’s announcement of getting exclusive episodes of Family Guy later this year, Disney+ has announced that they will be getting a number of exclusive episodes of The Simpsons coupled with some new holiday shorts, and the entirety of season 35.

For season 35, expect to see that streaming on Disney+ starting October 2nd. In addition, brand-new episodes of The Simpsons including  “The Past and the Furious,” “Yellow Planet,” and “O C’mon All Ye Faithful”  will all be exclusive to Disney+ with “O C’mon All Ye Faithful” being a double-episode set to premiere on December 17th. We’re also getting a new Halloween-themed short from The Simpsons expected to drop sometime this fall.

The Simpsons returns with new episodes on FOX starting September 29th @ 8 pm ET/PT, check your local listings.
