English Dub Review: Why Does Nobody Remember Me in This World? “The Boy Forgotten by the World”

Overview

Kai’s duty as a member of the Humanity Aegis Agency is to ensure that the four races from The Great War are kept sealed in their graveyards. Humanity has been at peace for 100 years, until one day a portal opens and everything he knows from the world he’s known ceases to exist…

Our Take

Based on the Japanese light novel series by Kei Sazane with illustrations by Neco. The story follows Kai Sakura Vento. A workaholic yet determined soldier who works within the Urza Foundation’s Humanity Aegis Agency, Kai and his colleague Jeanne go on a shopping spree to celebrate her promotion as a leader. Suddenly, Kai is warped into another world where he stands alone, confronted by demons but eventually supported by Ashran Highroll and Saki Miskotti. In this new world, Jeanne, now a leader in the Urza Federation after humanity fails in the Great War of the Five Races, does not recognize Kai, leaving him shocked and puzzled.

This is mostly a big deal because in the original world, Kai came from, humanity won the Great War of the Five Races, thanks to a legendary hero called “Sid the Prophet”. However, in this new world, no one remembers Kai, and Sid doesn’t exist. And without Sid, humans lost the war. After discovering a hero’s sword that was meant for Sid, Kai finds himself in a tower and makes an unusual discovery…

Overall, the anime presents a strong and interesting setup with a dramatic twist and creates quite a compelling narrative. Despite some clunky exposition, a lot of thankfully sets up a unique and intriguing story with solid production values. The cruel twist of fate and the mystery surrounding Kai’s situation leave me hooked enough to see how it all plays out in its proceedings.
