English Dub Review: The Vexations of a Shut-In Vampire Princess “A Golden World”

Overview

Nelia’s determination to stop Rainsworth grows stronger, but she cannot defeat him without Komari’s help.

Our Take

In the big season finale, Sakuna and her allies tracked Komari to the Dream Paradise. Nelia, empowered by Komari’s blood, unleashed an intense core release, freeing prisoners from the underground dungeons. Although it appeared Madhart’s plan was collapsing, his force of five thousand Paradise troops still posed a formidable threat. The showdown was set in the fortress city of Fall, with Komari’s core release being the Mulnite Empire’s last hope.

Seeing Gertrude take that right hook was startling, a moment straight out of a shocking scene. Karen’s growth from a seemingly perverted character in the first episode to the leader of a nation was impressive. The composer did a fantastic job during Komari’s power-up scene. Millicent’s unexpected role in the episode was also a pleasant surprise. Yet the coordinated attack by Komari and Nelia against a particularly irritating enemy was a standout moment complete with a comical yet wholesome ending that leaves things open to interpretation…

Overall, the show wrapped up the fall season nicely, despite a few repetitive plot points and generic villains. The production quality suffered due to Project No.9 handling multiple projects simultaneously. Komari’s journey and interactions, especially with her unit and Nelia, provided consistent comedy and action. Although some characters and plot elements were less engaging, the finale left a lasting impression, highlighting the series’ unique blend of humor and not-so-subtle LGBTQ undertones and a funny ending that has potential for another season if that ever becomes a reality.
