English Dub Review: The Irregular at Magic High School “Steeplechase Part 4”

Overview

The women’s division of the Steeplechase Cross-country Event has finally begun. Tatsuya has Pixie figure out the location of all the parasite dolls and tries to eliminate them before they come into contact with the players. However, the parasite dolls unleash their magic at speeds that exceed Tatsuya’s imagination. Though it is difficult, he manages to seal away the first parasite doll. Tatsuya goes on to seal away the remaining parasite dolls one after another, but the highest-performance models, the Prime Four, now stand in his way.

Our Take

To tie up loose ends, Tatsuya once again proves his prowess by effortlessly defeating the parasite dolls, even when faced with a coordinated team of four. Despite the challenge, his new armored suit (that design-wise reminds me of “The Guyver”) and Pixie’s support ensured his victory. While the action animation wasn’t outstanding, it effectively conveyed the intensity of the battles, with Pixie playing a crucial role in keeping Tatsuya safe from unexpected attacks.

The high-tech “M.O.V.A.L. Suit” added a fresh element to Tatsuya’s combat capabilities, though it was amusing to see him still taking hits, emphasizing that he’s not completely invincible. The subplot of the military’s secretive operations at a high school competition added a layer of intrigue and commentary on their lack of self-awareness.

Overall, the finale tied up some loose ends while teasing future confrontations. Tatsuya’s teamwork with Pixie highlighted his strategic thinking, even against formidable foes. Despite some rushed pacing and the predictable nature of Tatsuya’s victories, the episode managed to balance character development and plot progression, setting the stage for future storylines that have yet to be told…
