Our Take

Season 2 kicks off right where the first season left off, plunging us back into the complex dynamics between our two will they/won’t they leads Iska and Alice. The story quickly revives their electrifying romance amid ongoing conflicts. The proceedings of this episode manage to bring back familiar characters and introduce new revelations, adding depth to the royal family’s ambitions and the trust issues among them. Despite the intriguing plot twists, the standout moments are the charming interactions between Iska and Alice, which seems pretty damn consistent for the most part…

The episode also reminds the audience of the ongoing dynamic between Iska and Alice, culminating in their serendipitous meeting. However, the plot’s focus on the nation’s conflict feels less engaging compared to the potential for a rom-com hijinx between the two leads. The character designs also appear slightly altered, giving them a glossy look, and the animation quality has noticeably declined. Sisbell’s assertiveness in trying to win Iska’s loyalty contrasts with Alice’s typical prideful behavior, adding layers to the character interactions and intrigue within the Witch kingdom.

Overall, the first episode serves as a decent opening for the season, blending worldbuilding and character reintroductions. The pacing feels rushed, with a need for more breathing room in scenes. The intense music occasionally drowns out dialogue, though it remains well-composed. The new art style is a departure from the previous season, but it still holds aesthetic appeal. The episode ends on a high note, especially during the credits when Alice and her maid depart and try to order something which gave me a good laugh setting the stage for more romantic and thrilling moments ahead.
