OUR TAKE

Oh, another Isekai anime? Must be a day that ends in Y. Well, at least this one has some unique flavoring to it, as I don’t think I’ve seen one of these where the one who gets sent to another world is actually so reluctant that he’d rather die, even after already dying the first time. As many have pointed out, the character of Sensei is actually an homage of famed Japanese author Osamu Dazai, who himself also died by “lovers’ suicide” with his own partner back in the later 40’s. That also adds a bit too this character’s uniqueness as coming from the 40’s would mean he doesn’t have the modern understanding of the general fantasy world trappings that most Isekai worlds are formed around, let alone the genre itself. So, if you’re as sick of the genre as I am, you may be able to relate to this character right off the bat, even when the story seems almost desperate to give him a harem with two girls, Annette and Tama, right in the first episode. And I have no doubt that there will be more coming in the remaining eleven episodes, though we’ll just cover this one for now.

This first episode is pretty much a competent starting point for an Isekai story, just with the slight modifications to the formula that I already mentioned. We’ve got the truck attack, the reincarnation, the first encounter with the giant monster and meeting a couple cute girls, all the works. As for hints towards the future, Sensei seems to have some rather unique stats, as he’s seemingly very weak in terms of the typical attributes, but being attacked by a giant tree leads the tree to wither and die just from touching him. What does this mean for his fighting ability and how will he learn to control it? Will he even bother if he wants to die that badly? Well, even for a funny bit like that, this show has twelve episodes for a reason, so he’s probably not going to get his wish any time soon. Plus, there’s always the possibility that Sacchan, his girlfriend, is also in this world somewhere waiting for him, so there’s that to look forward to at least. So, there’s all that and more as we continue onward into the remaining short of a dozen installments of this show! So keep watching!
