English Dub Review: I Was Reincarnated as the 7th Prince so I Can Take My Time Perfecting My Magical Ability “Lloyd’s Answer”

Overview (Spoilers Below): Guided by Jade’s will, Lloyd deciphers the spell for teleportation.  Pushed to the brink, Guisarme unleashes an attack powerful enough to reduce anything to oblivion, the Mortal Dark Sphere.  At long last, this climactic magic battle comes to a conclusion.

Our Take: The battle between Lloyd and Guisarme has ended, but not without the latter pulling one last trick up his sleeve.  This thrilling fight was among the few decent moments of this formulaic yet unusually uncomfortable reincarnation series.  It served as a change of pace for its lighthearted magical tone and even provided some suitable animation that emphasizes its fantasy action.  I understand I’ve been saying that a lot, but trust me.  It’ll be one of the few things you’ll be talking about after watching the show. In the last episode, I predicted Lloyd would find a way to single-handedly destroy Guisarme’s ultimate attack without any issues.  Well, it turns out my prediction was correct.  Lloyd immediately makes the Mortal Dark Sphere disappear with his own mana sphere, displaying that two magic spheres colliding make for an uneventful explosion.  Of course, by that, I mean a small poof.  Lloyd’s spheres also hold the key to his anticlimactic victory over Guisarme, who’s now obliterated along with Jade’s body.  The conclusion to the fight is unsurprisingly far from epic regarding its tone.  However, the second half afterward isn’t without its tender-hearted moments that emphasize Lloyd’s kindness to others despite his obsession with studying magic. With the Assassin’s Guild now serving in Lloyd’s castle, the season ends on a lighthearted note despite my overall dismay towards it.  The series occasionally compensates with its animation style for the cuddly and action-packed moments.  Unfortunately, everything else is something we’ve seen a thousand times in other reincarnation shows regarding its narrative and underwhelming characters.  Let’s also not forget Lloyd’s design and the characters’ questionable choices toward him that faltered its reputation, as explained by the other viewers.  With the second season already announced, it’s likely I’ll be reuniting with this concept sooner or later. Hopefully, it’ll have a much better direction to go alongside it.
