English Dub Review: Dead Dead Demon’s Dededede Destruction “Episode 6”

OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)

Kadode continues using the alien tech to save civilians from normal dangers, but small overreaction leads to many getting hurt, leading her to a downward spiral as she finds herself unable to accept the harm she’s caused.

OUR TAKE

The sudden flashback concludes with the other shoe dropping. Last week ended with things seemingly on the upswing as Kadode and Ouran took on the thankless jobs of urban protectors with the alien tech granted to them by the alien visitor they had dubbed Isobeyan, after their favorite manga. Now we see the logical conclusion of that, as giving little kids advanced technology that bends space and time naturally leads to innocent people getting hurt. And since Kadode is a child who has not learned to process her emotions well or fully formed her frontal lobe, as well as having an abusive parent and school bullies to deal with, this then leads to her mental state deteriorating and EVEN MORE people getting hurt. And by the end of the episode, she walks off the edge of a building right in front of Ouran…which doesn’t quite track, considering we know Kadode is alive and well AND that Ouran wasn’t present for quite a bit of what happened here. Maybe these were memories that Isobeyan observed and put into Ouran in addition to the ones she may have had but repressed. Regardless, there is still clearly some information that we are being deliberately deprived of, but we’ve only reached the first third of the story so we’ll likely get more on that at some point.

This brings us back to the present, with this and the previous episode being revealed as having been framed inside…SOMETHING that the alien pretending to be the dead boy band guy does to Ouran. Does this mean that Kadode actually died that day and she is an alien herself? Did Ouran die somehow? SOMEONE DIED SOMEWHERE THAT’S FOR DAMN SURE. Anyway, the point is that the story is continuing to get more complex and add new layers outside of what’s happening in front of us in the show’s present. It makes sense that the aliens were present in some way prior to their public first contact, and there was probably something more going on than just some random alien dude messing around with a bunch of kids, but all of that will have to wait until we have more details about what’s going on RIGHT NOW. And right now, things are shifting to some more serious events as the Japanese government continues its efforts to destroy that big friggin mothership. Guess we’ll see where that leads us next week as we continue in the present day.
