English Dub Review: Code Geass: Rozé of the Recapture “Damocles”

Overview:

A rescue operation is launched to save the Japanese from the Sky Fortress Damocles and F.L.E.I.J.A.

Our Take:

To me, Code Geass has been more about the political machinations than it was about mechs. Sure, there are mechs and they look cool but the characters and how they get involved in this giant conflict was what made it awesome. Fast forward to this series and I would have said the mechs took a bigger backseat. That is until this episode when we got the biggest mech battle so far and it was fantastic. The new mech they got looks so cool, it reminds me of Deathscythe from Gundam Wing. You’ll love watching it in action if you’re a mech fan.

If you’ve watched Gurren Lagann you might be familiar with the “Are they gonna combine?” reference I made. The second I saw Roze and Ash getting close together with their mechs I was thinking “It would be awesome if they combined” and wouldn’t you know that’s exactly what they did?

This episode marks the first time that things didn’t go our hero’s way. I feel like the original series spoiled me because for one I didn’t have to wait weekly for new episodes. After all, I watched it pretty late. But I also knew that no matter what my guy Lelouch would come through when it mattered. He would always find a way to come out on top and I wonder if this group will be the same. Sure Sakuya also has a Geass and a keen tactical mind but this is the first time things haven’t gone her way so I’m intrigued to see how she handles the pressure.
