English Dub Review: Black Butler “His Butler, Taking Off”

Overview:

His duty as the Queen’s guard dog complete, Ciel and his servants take a trip to London to inspect new Funtom Company goods. Later, Sebastian is reunited with someone unexpected.

Our Take:

I have to rip into Crunchyroll for a second here, there was a scene after the credits rolled and the characters spoke German. The problem is they translated it at the bottom of the screen into Japanese but failed to give us an English translation. So I can’t tell you what the post-credits scene was about because I couldn’t understand any dialogue. Crunchyroll has been dropping the ball for the last couple of years with this, especially when it comes to translating things on-screen.

The episode itself was meh at best. We had a big event with Ciel infiltrating the school for the Queen, and now Ciel is back home. Of course, there’s going to be a lull but this was the finale of the season and it went out with a whimper. The good news is that another season has already been confirmed but I have no idea if the last scene was a lead-in to that because again… I can’t read Japanese and don’t speak German so I had no chance to understand.
