Review: No Time to Spy – A Loud House Movie

OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)

To celebrate his maternal grandfather getting married, the Loud Family goes on a vacation, but get swept up in their new Gram Gram’s old life as a super spy.

OUR TAKE

Our three week long Loud House marathon comes to a close with the premiere of their third TV movie, this time being a more actiony spy movie spoof. Being incredibly unfamiliar with anything Loud House related, I have not watched the other two movies, although apparently this isn’t the first movie where the family goes on vacation. Although while I would very much like to have been reviewing the one that had a couple Doctor Who actors, I’m fine doing the one that parodies a different iconic British literary figure, James Bond. And as you may expect, it’s got all the usual nods and lampshades to the more wacky run of Bond movies, like over the top villains, kooky gadgets, and a bombastic musical opening theme. Interestingly, despite the name being a reference to a Daniel Craig movie and its title song by Billie Eilish, there isn’t much in terms of tribute to either of those, which is kinda disappointing since it would be funny to see them try, but I get that it doesn’t quite fit with the tone. Those were more serious and grounded movies, which is pretty much as close to an antithesis of The Loud House as you can possibly get.

The plot mainly focuses on Lincoln (and to confirm one more time, his name is NOT Leo) being way into his new step-grandmother having been a former spy and getting the two of them wrapped up in one more mission, which itself gets the whole family involved by the end. As a bigger budget and longer version of a regular episode, there is naturally a lot more action and smoother animation, but more importantly, everyone in the family gets something to do that makes sense to their skill set. And as expected, Lisa was most definitely the Q of the group. Also just like the Big City Greens movie I reviewed not too long ago, this also works just as well for newcomers to the show like me as it would for people who have watched the whole thing these past eight years, so that always gets points from me. Overall, it’s just a fun time for everyone and a fine enough way to spent seventy five to ninety minutes. I can’t wait for the next vacation movie they do where they somehow get Harry Potter wizards involved. Maybe by then the author will give up control of the franchise so that everyone can enjoyment without worry of contributing to a horrible person! As for the new Gram-Gram, I do hope she gets to appear in future episodes, although I didn’t even know that the family even had a maternal grandfather before now so it’s not like she’d be around all the time anyway. I guess we’ll see!
