English Dub Review: TSUKIMICHI -Moonlit Fantasy “Fight On, Hero!”

Overview

Makoto is shaken by the revelation that the hero he meets on the battlefield is his high school senior, Hibiki Otonashi. Unable to dwell on it, Makoto enters a battle with Io to whom he suggests the demons retreat, in order to avoid a pointless battle.

Our Take

Continuing the fight from the last episode, Sofia suddenly intruded into the battle between Makoto and Io, eager for a rematch with Makoto. She launched a fierce attack, but Makoto remained unfazed, confidently utilizing his materialized magical power, Mana Body, to press both Io and Sofia into a corner. Meanwhile, in the Limia Kingdom, Lancer unleashed a barrage of light swords on Hibiki and her party as they fought off the demons, adding another layer of intensity to the ongoing conflicts.

Despite the action, the episode was too damn slow with the 20-minute fight sequence mostly spent on the flaunting of Makoto’s strength. This isn’t like a Dragonball episode where the series is concerned about too much escalating the power of its god-like main character, potentially overstaying its welcome by the end of the season. Some hope for a shift to empire and economy building, reminiscent of Overlord, but the current focus on combat has left mixed feelings and I’m hoping for a proper ending at this point.

Overall, the episode was a standout for the season, showcasing Makoto’s true abilities and finally moving away from his previous subdued demeanor. It was satisfying to see Makoto take decisive action against Io and Sofia. While the pacing remains a concern, the recent developments have gotten exciting to a certain extent. And with two episodes left, I hope to see what comes next and how it all ends…
