English Dub Review: That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime “Reconciliation and Agreement”

OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)

Tempest and the Holy Western Empire finally lay down arms and break bread.

OUR TAKE

Well, I guess that’s that for this arc, as this episode seems to pretty much just be about cooling down from everything that’s happened since the start of the season. Which is kinda weird on its own as, if you’ll recall, a lot of this season has been characters sitting around in rooms talking waiting for a big fight to happen. And then when that big fight DID happen, it ended pretty soon after. Thankfully, while a lot of THIS episode also involves characters talking in rooms, there’s plenty of room for significant character stuff. It’s nice to finally see Rimiru and Hinata, two people who have a unique connection as being from the human world, finally be able to lay down their arms and eat Japanese food as their nations make peace and begin to form a proper alliance. In addition, we also kinda learn the reason that the Seven Luminaries pushed for these sides to almost go to full war with each other and it’s…kinda small? Like they were just worried about their vampire god lady not giving them enough energy to keep living, which I guess now they’re NEVER going to get any since almost starting a war is not exactly behavior that is rewarded.

So yeah, that wraps up all that stuff with this whole conflict, but it also lays the groundwork for bigger fights to come, as the ones who escape from the fight meet with characters who have been recurring threats and have been behind some of the other major fights that have happened. I won’t really go into those characters because…well, they’re not that interesting and I’m sure that we’ll get plenty of opportunities to talk about them in greater detail when they’re more relevant, so it’s probably fine to hold off on mentioning them and bothering to look of things about them when we get there. We ARE only halfway through the season after all. And speaking of, next week will be the proper halfway point. With no apparent threat on the horizon, I am a bit concerned we may get bogged down by filler-ish shenanigans until something else starts properly brewing up, but I’ll be covering it either way, so hopefully there’s something interesting they can find some way to get into while we wait for the next big fight. And if not, well, then I get paid to talk about it so it can’t be that bad.
