English Dub Review: Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation “Desert Journey”

Overview:

With Nanahoshi’s help, Rudeus gains a way to shorten his journey, but he and Elinalise will still need to hurry if they hope to return before Sylphie gives birth. For their first obstacle: the harsh desert of Begaritt and its monstrous denizens.

Our Take:

I’m glad that Nanahoshi could help Rudeus with the teleportation circle because I don’t know if I could have handled another multi-year journey. They can be enjoyable but having multiple in one series could make it drag a little. Rudeus and Elinalise as travel companions is also interesting with Rudeus’ libido and Elinalise’s curse. But luckily they both seemed to have some modicum of self-control to not betray their loved ones. Well… Elinalise still had to find someone to sleep with because of her curse but I think Cliff understands at this point.

I think my only nitpick with this episode is that the journey through the desert took a lot longer in the books as opposed to the anime. I understand though because there’s quite a bit left that they want to cover before the season is over I’m sure. The part coming up is one of the most important parts of the light novel so I’m very intrigued to see how it gets handled in anime form. Studio Bind hasn’t let me down yet and I don’t imagine they will this time either.
