English Dub Review: Code Geass: Rozé of the Recapture “Melting Snow”

Brothers Rozé and Ash take action in the Northern Lands now conquered by the Neo-Britannian Empire.

Our Take:

I recently watched Code Geass: Lelouch of the Re;surrection to prepare for this because I heard it might be necessary viewing. That remains to be seen, but I must admit it led me down a rabbit hole, and now I’m baffled. Don’t get me wrong I’ve never watched anything Code Geass related and not enjoyed it but here’s how I understand things. There are compilation movies of the original series except that there are some minor differences which means they are set in a different timeline. The movie where Lelouch is alive is a sequel to those, and to the best of my knowledge this takes place in that timeline, so I hope Lelouch shows up.

Having said all that I loved this first episode. The main mech that one of the main characters uses is one of the most badass mech designs I’ve seen since The Witch from Mercury. I also have some questions that I hope get answered soon. Is Ash a real person that exists somewhere or is it just a persona that Sakuya Sumeragi created to hide herself?

My only knock on the series so far is why is it everyone adds “Neo” to a former enemy name? Neo-Nazis, Neo-Zeon, and now Neo-Brittania, it feels weird to me but hey it lets you know that these people are capable of great evil. I’m just happy to have one of my favorite series of all time back.
