Review: Grimsburg “Danish Dilemma”

Overview

On a day where murder seems to be on the low, the biggest of Marvin’s problems is his missing danish. The quest for the sweet boysenberry danish leads to an explosive case no one saw coming.

Our Take

If you’re like me and you’ve been waiting for some sort of payoff for watching the first season of Grimsburg, you’re in luck, you’ve made it to by far the best episode of the season. We get what I was kind of looking for in this series all along, a compelling plot, set off by a stupid premise (a lost danish), and a wild ass hook at the end. Moreover, this week’s episode was also the funniest of the bunch thus far. Flute’s entire prison sentence was hysterical and helped bring us down a trip through the memory lane of all the villains we got a chance to play with in the show’s first season. Add in the constant fourth-wall breaks with even Jon Hamm getting in on the action of self-deprecating humor!

Stan’s plot seemed a bit more rushed, definitely on the side of the show of normality that we’ve seen throughout the season, but Marvin’s intense investigation siding with a backflip-worthy climax had be hoping that THIS episode could be a launching pad for a much more positive second season. We’ll get into more details on what I mean in the season one review, but the producers really made a concerted effort to leave a lasting impression so that the show could finish strong and, as such, have us asking for a second season.

It worked. Patton Oswalt was a returning guest star and it didn’t even matter. We already know Grimsburg season two is on the way, perhaps, this episode could be something the show continues to build on moving forward.
