English Dub Review: That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime “Those Approaching”

OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)

As Tempest plan out Hinata’s inevitable arrival, the Rozzo Family plot out their own next steps from the shadows.

OUR TAKE

So, uh…can’t help but notice that we’re a quarter of the way through the season and the past three episodes have been just large groups of people sitting in boardrooms talking about what they’re gonna do instead of…well, doing it. Arguably the other three episodes have been this as well, and even more if you count the recap episode. Now, I’m not saying they weren’t MEANINGFUL discussions, and the first episode at least had some clear demonstrations of what Diablo was capable of, but there can only be so much hinting at what’s gonna happen with big meetings without major action before it becomes a problem. And here, at the end of the first quarter of a TWENTY FOUR EPISODE SEASON, is the borderline of where it becomes a problem. Heck, I don’t even need it to be a big fight, but surely there is something else we can do to rally the troops than just a whole lot of talking. I don’t exactly remember the fine details of binging through the first two seasons in a fugue state, but I’m pretty dang sure the first quarter of those seasons balanced the talking with some action. Aside from some small comedic bits to remind us of their surface level personality traits, there isn’t a lot in these big meetings that lets the ever expanding cast stand out AS characters.

But yeah, I guess it’s another week of just speculating on when the other shoe is going to drop and when things are actually going to kick off. Hinata is on her way to negotiate with Rimiru, but Tempest as a group is expecting the worst, while it turns out Hinata may be pushed to fight by the manipulations of the Rozzo family, who themselves have an agent within the Ten Great Saints, with the goal of pushing Rimiru and Hinata to kill each other in a fight. Once again, based on the OP, we do see that those two fighting looks to be pretty much inevitable, but it’ll more than likely end with them reaching some sort of closure about Shizu, the main commonality between them. Veldora is also a pretty big piece on the board that they’re at least aware of, and the OP hints at some connection between him and Luminous, so there’s also that to look forward to them doing something with. Basically, there’s a whole lot of POTENTIALLY exciting things up in the air right now, but that potential is gonna run out quick if they don’t GET THE HELL ON WITH IT.
