English Dub Review: The Demon Prince of Momochi House “The Light That Crosses Seas”

Overview (Spoilers Below):
Now that Aoi and the others are safely back in the house that sits between the human world and the spiritual realm, Aoi has something to share with Himari about her rightful place there.

Our Take:
The Momochi House has been saved, but that doesn’t mean the first chapter of their new lives is over. Following the confrontation between the protagonists and Mr. Nachi, we now have a threat-free epilogue that wraps up everything introduced in the season, at least until its potential second season. Of course, there’s no better way to celebrate this occasion than with a “Great Job” party at the Momochi House. However, it’s also not without one last surprise to conclude the season on a high note courtesy of Aoi.
Amid the celebration, the season finale offered a final look into Aoi’s early days as the house’s Nue, in which he found a diary written by none other than Himari’s mother. The diary revealed that she and her husband couldn’t see Ayakashi despite possessing the Momochi name. However, Himari was born with the powers, much to my lack of shock. Himari’s mother wrote the diary to her as her final goodbye, but since Aoi found the diary before she did, it gave him a reason to live through the curse he’s inhabited. It answers why Aoi is determined to protect Himari, but it also strengthens the bond between the two. So, it’s pretty evident that the finale ends with Himari and Aoi confessing their love with a kiss during the party’s fireworks show.
What does this mean going forward if a second season is announced? Well, aside from the new Ayakashi they might face, we could see more of Himari striving to help Aoi return to the human world and maybe have Kasha spoil their fun periodically. I’m still a bit disappointed that we didn’t see more of Kasha as much as the series promised. Perhaps that may change in season two. As for the episode itself, it serves as a sweet albeit predictable end to the season that concludes its seasonal storyline while leaving enough room for more possible yokai adventures with the Momochi clan. The series may not have changed how we see yokai-related anime, but I had a pleasant time experiencing it regardless.
