OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)Yuki and Itsuomi go on their first date, where Itsuomi shares his time living in Germany as a kid and learning to both love traveling and learning languages. Later, Yuki gets her first passport and begins plans to travel with Itsuomi sometime in the future. Meanwhile, Emma asks Shin out, Kyoya and Rin enjoy a date, and a friend of Oushi’s encourages him despite clearly have feelings of her own.OUR TAKEWe have reached the sign of the end times as A Sign of Affection comes to a close. Just like with the rest of the show, this episode focuses on Yuki and Itsuomi growing more and more in love, so I was curious how they would make things feel like a proper finale when the pace has been about the same as it always has. Well, to my surprise, this time we actually got to know more about Itsuomi from HIS perspective, as opposed to hearing things or thoughts on him from other people. Not that he was exactly an enigma before, but most of the show felt so much like we were only getting Yuki’s side of things in this development and not often how or if Itsuomi was changing or growing as a person. Seeing a glimpse into his youth, as he had to adapt to the different culture around him in Germany, and at least some insight into his love for traveling (though that’s still just told and not shown) finally made him feel more like…well, a person. I mean I’m not going to act naive at what demographic this story is for, so it makes sense for Yuki to feel like the more vulnerable one, but I like it when it feels like both sides of the love story are people, not one person and one ideal. But hey, glad we finally got there in the end. And as this is the finale, we also get brief check-ins with all the other sides of this love rhombus, with some being nice and cute while others are eye-rolling or concerning. Kyoya and Rin have basically just been the innocent B couple completely detached from all of this drama so naturally they’re doing fine on their own and I wish them well. But then we have Oushi and his unnamed female friend (if she had a name it sure isn’t worth remembering for how little screen time she gets) who is so obviously waiting in the wings for him to just give up on Yuki and pick her. Finally, there’s their counterparts on the other side of this, Ema and Shin, with Ema seemingly deciding that actually Shin is totally dateable NOW, and is definitely not a rebound to make up for her finally accepting that Itsuomi will never give her the time of day. Like, shit dude, I know you’ve been after her for awhile, but have some self-respect. However, we’re not going to see that brief fling implode, as the show is now over. See you for the Season Review!
