Review: Family Guy “Take This Job and Love It”

Overview

Peter and his friends wonder about what their dream jobs would be; Peter enters a sequence featuring himself as a James Bond-type; Quagmire reflects on his job as an aerobics instructor; Cleveland and Joe take part in a “Lethal Weapon” sequence.

Our Take

This week’s Steve Callaghan is another instance of Family Guy giving us a three-part “What If?” episode and just like every year they do this the result is mush. Peter enters a sequence a la James Bond, where he goes by the name Band and has to fight his nemesis, Blofella with the only funny gag being the Santana bit. Quagmire reflects on his job as an aerobics instructor in the ‘80s, which was his dream before he got run out of business by Jane Fonda with the only gags worth noting are the flash forwards and the Queststar Video IDs. Lastly, Cleveland and Joe take part in a Lethal Weapon sequence, where together they complete a drug bust on an unlikely foe, but not before I nearly fall asleep from boredom complete with another rendition of featuring characters from The Cleveland Show without any lines (“Donna” shows up earlier in the episode and actually gets a funny line in on Peter, Junior also cameos but doesn’t say a word).

This was a rough one folks. Carter calling Cleveland at 3 am to discuss Die Hard aside, I didn’t find a lot of solid laughs this week. Granted I’m probably coming in biased a bit because I typically distaste the Family Guy three-ways, but at least if we had some funny dialogue, maybe I could’ve worked my way out of it. Alas, this isn’t the case and we’re just under a month away from the show’s season finale.
