English Dub Review: The Wrong Way to Use Healing Magic “The End and the Beginning”

Overview

Resolve bridges Rose’s tragic past into her future as she and the rest of the Rescue Team make their way to the battlefield where they’re fated to cross with the demons.

Our Take

In the murky depths of the Darkness of Llinger, Rose’s forces engage in a fierce battle with the Demon Lord’s Army. As the conflict escalates, Nero, a prominent figure among the enemy ranks, issues a ruthless command, driving his troops forward with no regard for their own safety. Despite Rose and her soldiers asserting dominance initially, they soon find themselves overwhelmed by Nero’s relentless onslaught. The brutal exchange takes its toll, with casualties mounting among Rose’s comrades, and Rose herself facing major injuries that challenge even her strength.

The aftermath of the battle is a pretty accurate depiction of PTSD, revealing the emotional and physical toll of warfare on Rose. Despite her resolve, Rose struggles to maintain her composure in the face of overwhelming adversity. However, the experience serves to reinforce her determination and resilience, providing context for her unwavering commitment to protecting her allies. As the story shifts back to the present, preparations for an impending war are underway, with a newfound hope that the mistakes of the past can be avoided…

Overall, the conclusion of the flashback storyline delivers a powerful and impactful resolution. Rose’s retaliation against the demon forces and her eventual acceptance of the vice commander’s final words mark significant moments of growth and give Colleen Clinkenbeard a chance to really sell the drama of her character. At this point I’m not sure who that black knight could be, but I have a feeling that Usato will have to deal with him, and I can’t wait to see how that plays out!
