English Dub Review: Bottom-Tier Character Tomozaki “Everyone has different expectations about a big event; Important items are usually lying around in enchanted forests”

Overview

“Everyone has different expectations about a big event”

Fumiya confronts Aoi over her handling of the Erika Konno affair. He’s tasked with making a good impression on his classmates–plus a big decision.

“Important items are usually lying around in enchanted forests”

It’s now up to Fumiya to find a suitable play to perform at the culture festival, all while trying to check more of Hinami’s tasks off his Pinsta list.

Our Take

This time around, Crunchyroll felt the need to release two dubbed episodes at once along with many of their other shows this week with the former of the two focusing on the aftermath of Erika getting the karma she deserves after all the “Mean Girls” bullshit she previously did, and it’s heavily implied that Aoi’s twisted approach to dealing with Erika reflects her own experiences with harassment, although Fumiya disagrees with her methods. Within the class, it’s evident that only Yuzu holds the key to resolving the conflict between Erika and Ninomae. Meanwhile, Tomozaki sets new goals for self-improvement, focusing on areas like social media and involvement in the upcoming cultural festival. However, when pressured to reveal his romantic preferences, Fumiya remains noncommittal by dodging the question…

As for the other episode, Tomozaki takes charge of preparing for the cultural festival. He suggests an original play, which Fuuka has written, and ends up becoming the director. Fuuka shares how Tomozaki’s influence has helped her break out of her shell. As Tomozaki tackles tasks assigned by Hinami, such as taking specific pictures, the episode sets up a side quest for Fumiya and Takahiro as they visit Gumi’s all-girls school for their cultural festival. Now the real question is, what misadventures that await our protagonist in this unique invitation?

Overall, both were passable episodes even if the cracks between Tomozaki and Aoi’s dynamic are starting to show unsettling aspects of Aoi’s character. The tension between Tomozaki and Aoi grows as her dating advice feels both underhandedly scummy and something I’d completely expect from her at this point. Also, the fact that they explained Erika’s current situation has me worried that she’ll return with more drama in later storylines. As for what happens next regarding Fuuka’s play and the festival, I guess we’ll have to wait and see…
