The Boondocks: Watch The Unaired FOX Pilot

By John Schwarz

February 20, 2024

Not too long ago I posted a number of decisions FOX had made that they should regret as it pertained to Animation Domination and while not ordering The Boondocks could’ve been seen as a glaring omission, I, for one, was absolutely thrilled with the fact that FOX passed on the series thereby letting Mike Lazzo and Adult Swim to swoop in and order 15 episodes. Arguably, The Boondocks put Adult Swim on the map helping the network gain its first Peabody Award winning series.

Unfortunately, Warner Bros Animation has yet to learn of it’s ways when it comes to canceling series because after The Boondocks was canceled after four seasons and 55 episodes (which may or may not have been because of Tyler Perry), MAX had later ordered the series to a two season reboot that eventually went south.

In any event, if you’re wondering what the pilot episode of The Boondocks was like then head on over to Archive.org to see what FOX had to work with when Aaron McGruder and Reginald Hudlin pitched the series decades ago. For what it’s worth, Adult Swim’s Lazzo had seen the exact pilot and helped shepherd McGruder’s pitch into the tour de force that it eventually became.

Synopsis:

Brothers Huey and Riley Freeman experience a culture clash when they leave Chicago to move in with their grandfather in the suburbs.
