English Dub Review: The Wrong Way to Use Healing Magic “Rescue Team Member Usato!”

Overview

As the demon threat looms over the kingdom, Captain Rose decides it’s high time for Usato to get a taste of what a healer’s job is like on the battlefield. She tests his resolve, both mentally and physically…

Our Take

In this episode, after adopting an orphaned Blue Grizzly Bear cub named Blurin, Usato and Rose embark on training the adorable creature. Despite the uncertainty about Blurin’s gender, the design of this otherworldly bear is noted for its cuteness. Meanwhile, a plot is brewing in the background involving the forces of the demon lord, although the specific details of their scheme remain undisclosed. Interestingly, Rose and her medical team are referred to as “kidnappers,” even though their role revolves around rescuing and caring for the injured.

Later on, we get some compelling scenes of Usato undergoing training with Blurin on his back, highlighting the bond between the two. A particularly tender moment unfolds between Usato and Suzune, marking a big change within their relationship. As Usato now shares a more intimate connection with Suzune, especially after the initial shock of being transported to the fantasy world. We are also introduced to three new characters which also leaves me curious about their potential significance to the plot and what roles they could play….

Overall, a decent episode that has further laid out more of the stakes and the purpose of why Usato’s job is so damn important. And despite Usato not wanting to cause violence, the show does make its audience instantly root for him when he’s so sound about why he needs to be out there in the forefront with Rose. We are now 4 episodes in, and there’s more going on than I thought there would be. Aside from the Demon Kingdom as an antagonistic force, with the way this episode ended, I’m left hooked to see where this goes next!
