OverviewUsato is quite literally thrown into his next training assignment: surviving the wild woods known as the Darkness of Llinger until he can slay its most fearsome inhabitant…Our TakeThrown into a center of the wilderness crawling with monsters by Rose, Usato is faced with the daunting task of hunting down an otherworldly creature known as the “Grand Grizzly” as part of a survival trial imposed by Rose. Initially overwhelmed by the fierce beast, he gradually befriends a strange yet helpful black bunny-like creature. Later on, Usato also develops an unexpected bond with the bears through keen observations while also displaying some unexpected Rambo-like survival skills. As days pass and Usato prepares for the impending showdown with the Grand Grizzly, the narrative takes a chilling turn when he stumbles upon a gruesome scene, shifting the tone of the story dramatically. And to me, this is when shit started to get real. Because up until this point, I wasn’t expecting this series to be as bloody or extreme with its violence. But at least it wasn’t meaninglessly there for the sake of it. I can say though that what happens near the end was both a harrowing and intense character moment for Usato that not only rewards Usato but also the audience with one hell of a rewarding payoff to his training arc, along with a really big twist ending… Overall, if you look beyond some of the wacky moments, this marked a significant shift in tone that caught the viewers off guard with its sudden plunge into darkness and violence compared to the previous two episodes. If I had any major complaints, it would have to be the fact that the montage of Usato surviving wasn’t properly animated and parts of it were mostly broken down into shaky still images which was quite noticeable. At the very least, the dangers Usato encountered while trying to get his hands on an otherworldly creature emphasized how dangerous and unforgiving the environment Usato was stuck in, but with the way that twist-ending unraveled itself, I’m compelled to see where it goes next!
