Hazbin Hotel Is Prime Video’s Adult Animated Premiere Of All-Time

It took five years and many more years of her own audience building to make it happen, but Vivienne Medrano’s Hazbin Hotel has officially been named the biggest adult animated streaming premiere of all-time by Prime Video.

With a second season already ordered and Vivienne’s own Helluva Boss in development for a fourth and final season, Hazbin Hotel has helped lay the ground work for YouTube animation producers all over the world to find, build, and maintain that audience for years, so much so that a big-time studio like A24 takes notice of you and lands you a deal with Prime Video with animation produced by Bento Box Entertainment. It should also be noted that Prime Video narrowly beat Netflix as the biggest streamer in terms of total market share in 2023 so it’s plausible to think that Prime Video was able to successfully draw a number of the eyeballs that Medrano was responsible for on YouTube to help obtain the victory over Netflix which is excellent strategy.

For those that don’t know, Hazbin Hotel follows Charlie, the princess of Hell, as she pursues her seemingly impossible goal of rehabilitating demons to peacefully reduce overpopulation in her kingdom. After a yearly extermination imposed by angels, she opens a hotel in the hopes that patrons will be “checking out” into Heaven. While most of Hell mocks her goal, her devoted partner Vaggie, and their first test subject, adult-film star Angel Dust, stick by her side. When a powerful entity known as the “Radio Demon” reaches out to assist Charlie in her endeavors, her crazy dream is given a chance to become a reality.

Created by Vivienne Medrano, Hazbin Hotel is based on her popular animated pilot released on YouTube in 2019, which  quickly gained over 92 million views and a rabid worldwide fan base. The series blends adult humor, unforgettable characters, and catchy musical numbers, creating a wholly original and unique world.

Vivienne Medrano serves as executive producer and directed all episodes. Joel Kuwahara, Dana Tafoya-Cameron, and Scott Greenberg (Season One) also serve as executive producers. Hazbin Hotel is produced by A24 and FOX Entertainment’s Emmy award-winning animation studio Bento Box Entertainment.
