English Dub Review: Ragna Crimson “Reunion”

Overview (Spoilers Below):
Ultimatia may have control over time itself, but Crimson knows her powers must have a weakness. Uncover it, and all variables will be accounted for…or so Crimson thinks.

Our Take:
They say that everyone has a weakness, whether they’re a hero or a villain. Superman is vulnerable against kryptonite, and Batman can’t kill people, at least in specific iterations. This episode shows that Ultimatia is no exception due to her time magic. As Ragna struggles with what to do against the angel-winged dragon, Crimson and his allies discover an advantage they can use to defeat her for good. Ultimatia can use her magic to rewind time and resurrect people, including herself, but she has to stop pausing time around her to activate it. That means if Ultimatia is forced to rewind her death repeatedly until her magic depletes, her demise becomes permanent. You could say that it’s easy as pie for Ragna and Crimson, but that doesn’t appear to be the case.
The only obstacles standing between victory and defeat are Ragna and Monarch Nubulim. Nubulim is revealed to be responsible for Ultimatia’s plan to painlessly murder people by using a barrier to make them disappear into thin air. Of course, this only enraged Ragna even more, as he despises her using murder as an act of kindness. The previous episode ended with Crimson ordering Ragna not to engage with Ultimatia. However, due to witnessing his future encounter with the monarch via his vision, Ragna proceeds to kill her repeatedly. See what happens when you don’t control your temper, kids? It can lead you to do stuff like that.
Fortunately, Ragna’s actions are part of Crimson’s secretive plan to use him as his puppet, but we have yet to discover Crimson’s true purpose. While that remains a mystery, I can still appreciate the show for maintaining its tension, not just for the action scenes but also for the characters, mainly Ragna. “Reunion” marks another example of this by showcasing Ragna’s internal struggle between following Crimson’s orders and allowing his rage toward dragons to consume him again. The episode also displays more of Crimson’s servants, Golem and Chimera, which proved to be a tad better than Slime regarding their brief yet comedic moment between the two. With Ragna aggressively on the offensive, I can assure you that Ultimatia is pretty much screwed at this point.
