English Dub Review: Heaven Official’s Blessing “E9”;“E10”

Overview:

Everything about the death of the royal family and Xie Lian’s involvement comes to light

Our Take:

To kind of give you an idea of the whirlwind these two episodes sent me on, I started the first one feeling dead tired, even starting to fall asleep. By the end of the second episode, I was on the edge of my seat because it was like getting to witness the Red Wedding but we already knew it was coming.

The Xianle were a group of people who had fought a war against the royal family and some of the royal family didn’t like the fact that they were being treated well. The emperor however wanted to run a peaceful kingdom and the only way to make that happen was to put past grievances aside and move on. Unfortunately, you can’t please everyone and some people in the Xianle didn’t like how things were and planned a massacre.

Xie Lian’s involvement was also explained in that he showed up after most of the damage had already been done. He saved the emperor at first but after seeing his family massacred the emperor had a change of heart and was shouting an order to have all people of Xianle ancestry put to death. Xie Lian struck the emperor down before his order could be heard, so he did technically kill the emperor but the rest was not his doing. I look forward to seeing how the crown prince handles this information.
