Review: Hailey’s On It! “We Wish You a Merry Chaos-mas”

Overview

When Hailey loses a mini reindeer, causing Christmas to not exist in the future, she must throw the best Oceanside Christmas Festival to save the future of Christmas.

Our Take

In 2074, the Professor (Sarah Chalke) and her team celebrate the 50th anniversary of Hailey’s big Christmas celebration. In the present, Hailey is putting the finishing touches on the party with Scott having invited Rudy the Skateboarding Reindeer, which according to history within their timeline is what makes the Christmas celebration a big success. And in an effort to prevent possible time-traveling pranks from happening within their office christmas party, the Professor arrives so that she can hide her team’s access cards which they use to time travel. Unfortunately, this comes back to bite her in the ass later on in unexpected ways.

During a a series of mishaps involving a time portal, Hailey throws the worst Christmas party, resulting in people forgetting about the holiday in the future. The group struggles to save the day with various music acts until a Chaos Bot turns the power off. Hailey decides to sing a very lighthearted song that while is par for the course of Disney, feels like it properly captures the spirit of christmas in it’s own unique way, and given the current time we live in when people want excess in our culture, the song “Keep Christmas Simple” seems pretty relevant today.

Overall a decent Christmas episode for such an unusual premise involving time travel and mixing it with a “bucket list” for this little girl. A lot of the hijinks at times felt grossly contrived and much of the Professor’s fuck-ups were things she caused by herself. At the very least it wasn’t boring even if the character designs are off-putting in terms of whatever narrative Disney is trying to force-feed us.
