OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)The Forgers try to relax on their vacation, but Yor looks after her target and faces numerous assassins.OUR TAKECrunchyroll has decided to double up on the Spy X Family episodes this week to make up for the lack of one last time, which works out great for me because it gives me more to talk about and not needing to come up with the same or similar things every single week. We introduced this arc last week with Yor getting a new mission, possibly her last, which just so happened to line up with Anya winning a cruise trip on the same ship. Now, we get to see the meat of what makes this a good arc for this kind of show, including all the character work they’ve been putting off by delaying having this arc until now. I plan on seeing the upcoming movie with friends, so I should probably get around to watching Season 1, but I don’t know that has an arc for Loid that has him do a mission like how this one is for Yor, but this is the first time in this season that I’ve seen make nearly full use of the premise of the show. Both parents are spies for the other side, only Anya really knows this but chooses to hide it, and one is on a mission they need to keep secret from the other. The only way they could make this better is if Loid was one of the assassins trying to take out Yor’s target but they somehow STILL didn’t know they were fighting each other. Actually, that may be too much, but the point is that we are diving head first into the real dramatic (and comedic to a lesser extent) potential of the story. It’s also an opportune time to show how much the three of them have become accustomed to being a family, as Loid and Anya miss Yor as they have dinner, and Loid’s attempt to be a more usual father to Anya just make her embarrassed, while Anya is also trying to make sure that Loid doesn’t know Yor’s secret. Considering how much of the manga there is left to adapt, I’m guessing the two agents won’t suddenly find out the others’ secret any time soon, but with still five episodes left in this arc and this season, I’m sure I can expect some major plot development to occur by the end. Next week it’s back to one a week, but we’re already cooking with gas.
