While everyone is suitably impressed with what Kanata is achieving, there are battles up and down the field, and it quickly becomes apparent that the 86 isn’t the only car the MFG viewers should be keeping a close eye on.

On the approach to the death zone for the second time, Kanata starts to make his move. But does he have enough life left in his tires to climb up the order?


Our Take

This time around, Crunchyroll felt the need to release two dubbed episodes at once this week with the former episode coming across as kinda off off-putting as it somewhat delves into certain male characters (Not Kanata) openly expressing romantic interests in “17-year-old girls”. While I’m aware that some of these dudes are mostly teenagers, I couldn’t help but feel irked by it. As for the racing, this was a more tame episode as the race properly entered its 2nd and final lap. Shun’s unusual dedication to getting Ren’s kiss is still there, while Kaito proceeds to gain speed, As for the Yashi-Kita siblings, those two are preoccupied with holding off Kanata. As for the “Angels” interview, it’s clear who Ren’s favorite is, but as for Kyoko, she’s gunning for the old man, she’s that practically simping for him for 2 years.

For the other episode, thankfully shifted a bit more focus on the racing aspect, as Kanata’s overtaking scenes of the Alfa, Lotus, and even a Porsche. I think we were all well aware that Kanata was going to at least race within the foggy “Section 3” of the course, but how many points he was gonna rack up? I think that’s anyone’s guess…

Overall, both were passable episodes even if the “romance” aspect tries to overtake the narrative. I can understand it’s a cultural thing for Japan to have a thing for young girls since disturbingly their age of consent is 13 years old. But you’d think a line could’ve been drawn at how old the girls should be when writing something like that. At the very least, I liked how with the fog there was a lot of tension in the atmosphere but Kanata terrifically overtook those cars, and hope to see what happens later on.
