English Dub Review: Girlfriend, Girlfriend “The Girlfriends’ Resignations”

Overview

Rika kidnaps Naoya after drugging the others, hoping to seduce Naoya while the others are away. Naoya firmly rejects her advances, but this only inspires Rika to keep trying harder. Naoya then realizes escape is the only way out…

Our Take

This time around, the episode picks up from the “previous one” that gave off some disturbing implications, but thankfully it doesn’t take such a darker direction since this is supposed to be a lighthearted comedy that plays with “Harem” tropes in a somewhat realistic way even if the reactions are played for laughs 80% of the time.

As for Shino, she’s becoming ever so more conflicted on the train ride back home after such a huge change in the relationship dynamics. based on the post-credit’s preview, I think she’s finally going to make her move, even if she’s hesitant about it. Either way, with Mirika joining the household, things will certainly be crazier now…

Overall, I’m glad that Mirika was able to get some well-deserved progression at long last. Her tactics of getting Naoya alone with her were ambitious and risky, but she did make a good showcase of how honest she is with what she wants, so I’m glad that Naoya has finally offered her a compromise, along with the terms that make you wonder what direction it’ll take next!
