Review: Aqua Teen Hunger Force “Shaketopia / A Quiet Shake”

Overview:

Master Shake rules over a virtual world in “Shaketopia.” Everyone has to live in silence due to alien invaders in “A Quiet Shake.”

Our Take:

Aqua Teen Hunger Force is back with its first season in over eight years. It’s going to be a short one, but it should be enjoyable going off of the first two episodes. “Shaketopia” shows Shake ruling over a bunch of citizens in a VR game. Meatwad wants to rule as well, but Frylock wants both of them to get back to reality.

“A Quiet Shake” shows everyone being forced to live in silence. Aliens who are basically just living and functioning ears have invaded Earth and Frylock has to come up with a way to get rid of them. Everyone else doubts their existence, so they begin to play loud music in spite of Frylock’s instructions.

It’s nice to see this show coming back after so many years and it hasn’t missed a beat. The humor is still the same as it’s always been and the style still holds up. This season revamps the intro a bit and I think it works. The song’s remix is fine and the visuals have a noticeable upgrade.

The actual show looks exactly the same. It still has its cheap-looking animation, but that’s always been a part of its charm. The VR world has really nice visuals though. It has the best-looking background and character designs I’ve seen on Aqua Teen Hunger Force in quite some time.

The visuals have never been the strongest part of this show though. That’s always been the humor and the characters, both of which are still on point after all these years. The characters’ personalities are still the same and they’re still as entertaining as ever. The jokes are pretty good as well, such as Meatwad drawing on shake and the ear monsters confusing Earth with their planet because of how it’s spelled.

Both episodes are a good time and a great return for the show. It’s a great time to be an Aqua Teen Hunger Force fan and I’m looking forward to the rest of this brief yet highly anticipated season.
