Freeform’s Praise Petey Canceled After One Season

I can’t imagine being an original series on a network that has to split time with Pat Robertson’s Christian Broadcasting Network. Even more so now that Freeform and additional FX Networks were casualties in the recent Disney/Charter deal (get ready Comedy Central/Viacom subscribers, you’re next) so as to even further decrease the chance of viewership in the future. The network, as it stands, is yet another network largely buoyed by Family Guy reruns that, like FXX, may have an uncertain future when it comes to producing any other original animated series.

Freeform has announced that they have canceled the critically-acclaimed series Praise Petey after only one season. Praise Petey is an American animated sitcom created by Anna Drezen for Freeform that follows Petra “Petey” St. Barts as a wealthy New York socialite who had it all until her mother informs her that she inherited a small town from her recently deceased father called New Utopia. Upon arriving, she discovers that her father was a cult leader and that the residents have been brainwashed to mindlessly follow her due to her father’s influence. Now with a new purpose in life, Petey hopes to have New Utopia think for themselves and be normal by starting with the abolishment of human sacrifices.
