English Dub Review: The Kingdoms of Ruin “Joy to the World”

Overview:

The National Security Bureau unleashes an attack on Lunamilia.

Our Take:

Adonis refuses to resurrect Chloe. He loves her too much to put her through the hell that the world has to offer. He instead revives Doroka as a way to repay her for saving his life. The witches immediately let Adonis know that this is unacceptable.

They don’t have a lot of time to be angry because the National Security Bureau invades their safe haven. They start wreaking havoc and a war ensues between the witches and the humans. The main fight is between Yamato and Adonis. The fight does end in this episode, but it’s unclear what the outcome is.

It’s also wroth noting that the tree that births and revives witches is burned down. The witches make it seem like this is the only one of its kind, or at least the only one left. That would mean the witches will be extinct once the remaining ones die out.

This episode is basically just a bloodbath. There’s a lot of action going on here and it’s pretty captivating. I like seeing there different types of magic each witch uses. It’s unfortunate that we only get small glimpses of that, but I didn’t expect most of these characters to live long.

I don’t understand why the humans needed the magic nullification machine if they can slaughter witches with ease even when they’re using magic. Maybe there have been more scientific advances since then, but it’s a little strange. There are a lot of casualties on the humans’ side too, so it’s an even fight for at least a little while.

The ending of this episode is open-ended, so I’m intrigued to see how this battle really ended up. I like Adonis’ reasoning for not revving Chloe. I also like Doroka, so I’m glad to see she gets a second chance. However, it’s unfortunate that she has to be revived right before a bloody war breaks out. I will say that this brutal action make this episode a little more enjoyable than the last two. It’s still a bit nonsensical, but it at least holds my attention.
